General Information

Access

There are several points from which you can access Big Schloss. The easiest is from Wolf Gap Recreation Area in George Washington National Forest. The way we entered the area was from FDR 92 at the base of Stony Creek Trail.

Maps

The best reference I have found for this area is in the Circuit Hikes in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania hiking guide put out by the PATC. This pocket-sized guidebook contains maps, trail descriptions as well as directions to trailheads. I did notice some problems with accuracy in my 1994 edition. It discusses some trails in the Little Schloss area that seem to overgrown or been closed off, but the descriptions directly in and around Big Schloss were accurate.
