I don't have any photographs of Stony Creek trail, but I wanted to describe it because it is a very pleasant trail. Bottom HalfThe bottom half of of the Stony Creek trail is dark and cool. It is dominated by ferns and hemlock trees. The small creek parallels the trail for the first mile or so. It is a great way to enter the wilderness because you feel like you are going through a portal into a different, more primal, time. Top HalfThe top half has more deciduous growth as well as lush green ferns. The area surrounding the PATC Sugar Knob Cabin (which is a tiny and cute ) is beautiful. There are several campsites that are in the area, as well as a reliable water supply. As a matter of fact, it is a bit marshy near the top of the trail. While we were there, we saw numerous deer and a fresh (still wet) bear print. With the bear print on our minds as dusk fell, we were paying close attention to our surroundings. We were scared out our pants by a familiar but deafening noise. A Whiporwil decided to perch in his favorite spot inside our campsite, and he made such a racket that we decide to wait for it to leave before bedding down ourselves. It was so loud that we were not going to be able to sleep. So we stayed up and spotted deer with our flashlight instead. I think we were in one of their favorite spots too. Add Your Comments (0)
