Access

The Canaan Mountain Area is most easily accessed from West Virginia Route 32 near Canaan Heights (overlooking Canaan Valley from the north). The Canaan Loop Road also known as FR 13 is passable by most vehicles for the first 8 to 10 miles or so. Ordinary cars or less robust trucks probably shouldn't try to venture past the Table Rock trailhead since there are two significant fords and numerous large rocks in the road. If you do choose to go the full loop, the road ends in Blackwater Falls State Park. You can park in Blackwater Falls State Park, but you will have to cross the Lindy's Run ford which is at least a foot deep and not easy to rockhop.

Weather

Canaan Mountain area isn't any more severe or difficult than the Canaan Area in general. You can expect temperatures to be lower than the areas where you can get the normal weather report (Elkins for example).

Nearest Towns

Davis and Thomas are both nearby. Davis has a small grocery store and a few independant restaurants, but sometimes late arrivals will find the town shuttered.
