Lindy's Run

Lindy's Run is one of the trails that bisects the Canaan Mountain area running north and south. We hiked from the south end of the trail down to the north end--both ends terminate at the Canaan Loop Road.

North End of the Trail

At the north end of the trail is a wonderful rock wall with smooth and pitted holes covering its surface. Running adjacent to the wall is Lindy's Run which is overrun with Rhododendron. The picture above was taken in mid April before much of the folliage was out.

Spruce Trees

Most of the trees and plants in the area are Spruce or Hemlock. There is also lots of Rhododendron and a small amount of Mountain Laurel.

In and Out of Pine Forests

When hiking down Lindy's Run, you will have the pleasure of seeing many different of highland ecosystems. There are deep, dark Hemlock groves followed by open Red Spruce and Rhododendron nestled in deep ravines.

Lunch-spot Along Lindy's Run

We bushwhacked a short distance off the trail to the upper reaches of Lindy's Run. The cool water and dense Rhododendron surrounding us made a natural chamber music that any Baroque composer would envy.
