Table Rock

Table Rock is one of the prettiest spots in Canaan Mountain. There is a campsite at the rocks that can hold three or four tents, but there is no water. It is really nice because you can sit on the rocks at nice and enjoy the view.

Table Rock Panorama

This panaroma of Dry Fork Valley was taken on a recent spring day. As late as Memorial day, trees still retain the bright green of early spring.

Foggy View Southwest

Looking to the Southwest, we can see Otter Creek and Shavers Mountain. At the bottom of the valley is the Dry Fork of the Cheat River looking downstream towards Hendricks and Parsons West Virginia. Shortly after I snapped this picture, it got dark and began to rain very hard. The trail back down to the Canaan Loop Road was practically a river. One good thing about the rain: the large round holes in the rocks filled with water and we could filter our drinking water from them.

Looking Towards Shavers Mountain

This picture over the edge looks downstream on the Dry Fork of the Cheat River towards Otter Creek.

Rock Cracks

The rocks at Table Rock have numerous interesting cracks that you could climb down using a chimney technique. Watch out though, sometimes they are hidden by some of the low scrubby brush that is around on the rocks.

Great Spot for a Picnic

We sat down and grabbed a snack while viewing the scenery, but the dog kept wanting to explore the edge. I am not too sure that she (the dog) is bright enough to avoid falling over the edge, so we kept a good hold of her.
