This area is very easy to access from the Red Creek Campground on FR 75. There are dozens of campsites along the banks of Red Creek and its tributaries. Quiet Sheltered CampsiteThis campsite is just 1 mile west of Red Creek Campground. It is hard to find because you have to walk a few hundred yards through a marshy area to get to it. Good Luck finding it! Actually, maybe I don't want you to find it. The stream behind is a tributary to Red Creek and was deep enough to swim in--although we didn't because it was April and we saw some snow during this trip. The water was cold enough to chill chocolate mousse mix immersed in the water in a ziplock bag. |
Upper Reaches of Red CreekWhen you hike along the Blackbird Knob Trail (TR 511), you are constantly crossing Red Creek or one of its tributaries. Sometimes it is easy to rock-hop, but when the water is high, be careful. This location involved rock-hopping and then a steep hike up the eroded bank of the creek. |
Another Campsite Near Red Creek CampgroundThis campsite is about 2 miles from Red Creek Campground. It is a few hundred yards north of the trail around one of the first crossings of Red Creek. At this location there were some nicely built fire rings with flat rocks setup beautifully to cook on. There were even conveniently placed and shaped rocks to sit on. The ground is relatively soft for camping because of the dense grasses. Continuing west past this location leads to BlackBird Knob and points west Add Your Comments (0)
