The area west of Blackbird Knob has some of the best trail accessible views in the northern area (except Bear Rocks).

Hiking West of Blackbird Knob

When you go west of Blackbird Knob, the terrain changes dramatically. First you have green lush trails like this picture, then you are faced with rough rocky terrain punctuated by Mountain Laurel.

Canaan Valley View

This is one of the few views at Dolly Sods that allow you to see civilization--if you want to. This view is half a mile north of the intersection of the Blackbird Knob Trail, Breathed Mountain Trail (TR 553), and Big Stonecoal Trail (TR 513). Turning north here will take you up onto Cabin Mountain.
