Breathed Mountain Trail makes some nice hiking loops with Big Stonecoal Trail (TR 513) and Blackbird Knob Trail (TR 511). ![]() Beaver ZoneMarshes and beaver dams are common along the Breathed Mountain Trail (TR553). I don't recall any particularly nice (dry) campsites in northern stretch, of trail, so you may want to camp at either end of the trail. It looks a bit like a warzone with all the fallen trees and standing water that collects in low lying areas. You are constantly trying to hop from one rock, log, or dense grassy spot to keep out of the water. Traveling through this area with a pack can be especially difficult because you tend to sink into the muddy or spongy ground. Wear waterproof boots, expect to have wet feet and carry several spare pairs of socks. |
Breathed Mountian TrailNot all of the trail is this easy. The first mile west from Red Creek is very steep. But once you get to the top, you can expect nearly a mile of easy, flat terrain to catch your breath before you get to the rock hopping areas described above. Add Your Comments (0)
