Rocky Point Trail is very flat, but at times, very rocky.
Good boots and strong ankles are necessary on this trail.
 View Looking Southwest
The Rocky Point Trail (TR 554) ranges from very easy and smooth to very
rough and rocky. This picture was taken below Lion's Head. Unfortuanately, on this trip
we didn't get up to the overlook. We missed the turn-off. By the time
we realized it, we were too tired to return. We still had to get all the
way up the other side of Red Creek Canyon.

Ankle Breaker
This is the hard part of the Rocky Point Trail (TR 554). These little
boulders made up the old railroad grade that was used for logging. There
is a lot of Mountain Laurel and Rhododendorn along this trail.

Railroad Bed Continues
The railroad bed that began on the Rocky Point Trail (TR 554) continues
northward after intersecting with Red Creek Trail
(TR 514). It is somewhat rocky in places, but basically pretty pleasant.
One Warning, Red Creek Trail (TR 514) from
Red Creek to the intersection with Rocky Point Trail is short but very
steep and treacherous. The Rocky Point Trail terminates at Red
Creek Trail (TR 514) which continues northward towards Red Creek Forks and Breathed Mountain Trail (TR 553).

Lion's Head Turnoff
If you want to make the short trek up to Lion's Head then you will need to make sure not to miss the clearly marked turnoff (sarcasm). It can be easy to miss the turnoff. Rock cairns are unreliable and the turnoff looks like little more than a wildlife trail. If you are coming from Big Stonecoal Trail, start looking for the turnoff within 5 minutes after intersecting with Rocky Point Trail.
