Unnamed View

The Unnamed view that is along the Rohrbaugh Plains Trail (TR 508) is not only easy to access, but it has a beautiful campsite with a view.

View Toward Flatrock Plains

This unnamed view is one of the nicest and easiest to get to in Dolly Sods. It is a two hour hike from the Forest Road 75 along the Rohrbaugh Plains Trail (TR 508). This picture looks southeast from the rocks back towards Flatrock Plains. The bright green, spring leaves come out late at Dolly Sods (This picture was taken on Memorial Day weekend).

Watch Out for Your Midnight Walks

This campsite is just a few feet away from the view above. The view looks due west towards Breathed Mountain. There is reliable spring that runs just north of here. I haven't yet camped here, so I don't know what the winds or nighttime weather are like. It would be an easy campsite to try to make at dusk by using the Wildlife Trail (TR 260) for access.

Towards Lions Head

At Unnamed View, you can also look across the Red Creek canyon towards Lion's head (on the right side of the picture). Just below Lions Head is the Rocky Point Trail (TR 554).

Looking south, Red Creek flows downstream towards Laneville and Flatrock / Roaring Plains. Running down the ridges on the opposite bank of Red Creek is Dunkenburger Trail (TR 558) and Big Stonecoal Trail (TR 513) . This picture gives some idea of how steep those trails are.

Towards Breathed Mountain

At Unnamed View, you can also look due west across the Red Creek canyon towards Breathed Mountain. If you are planning to camp down in Red Creek canyon, this is a pretty good afternoon hike. The first half mile up from Red Creek is the most treacherous, but after that the switchbacks get longer and less severe.
