New Moon in Smoke Hole Canyon

One of the tough things about photography is getting to the beautiful spots at the beautiful times with your camera gear (and your neck) intact. This weekend we joined our White Grass friends for the Smoke Hole Canyon run. Of course I brought my camera strapped securely to a thwart, but I didn't take it out too often. I wanted to to enjoy the journey instead of constantly pulling the camera out—actually we had our novice hands full with a lively river that demanded our undivided attention.

It wasn't until after dark that I setup the tripod and took a couple long exposure panoramics. This one is only two shots at two different exposures, one for the fire and tree, the other for the moonless sky lit only by stars. I am not sure how long the exposures were–both were longer than a minute and shorter than five minutes. This photo does a nice job of capturing the warm serenity of the night by the fire.

And for those of you who helped reunite with our overturned canoe and gear, I send you my sincerest thank you...and yes, the camera gear and paddlers all came through unscathed. Add Your Comments (1)
