Shaver's Mountain

When we visited Otter Creek, we hiked up Green Mountain via the Mylius Trail (TR 128) and Shavers Mountain Trail (Tr 129). They are not as pretty as Otter Creek itself, but do include some significant stands of Rhododendron and Laurel.

View at Shavers Mountain Shelter

On Shavers Mountain there is a shelter with a few decent campsites and a spring nearby. The view at the shelter has overgrown significantly and affords only a narrow view to the east. A highland bog that was near the shelter has largely dried up and become overgrown with Laurel, and various varieties of pine. The highlight of Shavers Mountain is the Green Mountain Trail (TR130). It drops over 1300 feet as it descends northward to Otter Creek. Green Mountain Trail (TR130) has beautiful stands of thick Rhododendron. Guidebooks mention an overlook to the east side of the trail which we were unable to find. Be sure your boots are tight on this descent. It is a toe-jam trail.
