This panoramic of Sand Beach in Acadia National Park was taken just minutes after the sunrise. the textures of the rocks and sand provide details that anchor the viewer in the image, allowing the eye to wander out to the blue sky on the horizon or into the shadows of the hill. I captured this image while in Acadia in the summer of 2005, but I didn't assemble or print the image until I rediscovered it nearly a year later. Somehow, my first response to the image wasn't as favorable as it was after time had passed. I find that photos, or any art, can initially evoke very little emotional response, but then after living with the image for awhile, the image can begin to take on deeper meaning. It is very much like a growing relationship in life. Conversely, many photos, or art, can start out with infatuation and burn out quickly. My affection for Acadia Beach has only deepened with time.
