 Broad-leafed skunk cabbage is growing in a boggy run along Great Seneca Stream near Germantown, Maryland. I always marvel at how lush and vibrant the woods near my home can be. It would be so easy to leave my camera in the closet for travels to exotic places, but creating great work requires tons of practice, and this is where I live, so this is what I photograph. Practice aside, I think many photographers find that some of their greatest photographs are taken in their own backyards because they can return day after day until they get it right.
