Big Stonecoal Trail has many campsites along its northern end. Some of the trail goes through areas that are marshy and wet like the plains in the northern region of Dolly Sods. At the intersection of Big Stonecoal Trail (TR 513) and Breathed Mountain Trail (TR553) you can see the slopes of Timberline ski area. Waterfall Along Big Stonecoal TrailThe northern section of this trail (TR 513) is fairly pleasant, running through some dense hemlock and pine. There are a few pretty views of Stonecoal Run cascading over rocks. The last mile or two of the trail goes very steeply down to Red Creek. |
Open Campsite Along Big StonecoalThere are several small campsites in deep pine along Big Stonecoal Trail (TR 513). This is the only one we saw that was open with several camping spots. It is north of the intersection with Little Stonecoal Trail (TR 558). Add Your Comments (0) |
